How many damn cars used these vents? I know saw an exotic, or low volume sports car with them, but they are also in the Mazda6 and several Ford cars, and F-150s
oh and the Mustang

90% of Ford products in the mid-2000s had those vents. Ford GT included.

My favorite part about them is closing them, turning the HVAC onto DASH, turning the fan speed to HIGH, and listening to the gawdawful whistling noises they make.

WOW. I wonder if that really is the same part. I mean a Ford part in a Mazda isn't surprising, but in a Toyota? When they were still in business with GM? that's nuts. maybe they were actually made buy an aftermarket company who sold it to major car companies.

They're not exactly the same as the Ford/Mazda ones. They're a bit beefier and designed a little differently.
But very similar!

I had a Mazdaspeed 6. The vents were quite easy to use to redirect airflow. Much simpler than the vents where you have the separate wheel and nubbin dealies.
And actually, before my MS6, I had an NB Miata with its even-simpler ball-in-socket style vents.
So when I went back to a car with "regular" vents it was a bit of an adjustment period.

I like to pretend I caught a little leprechaun that is attempting to escape but can't since I locked him in my ac port. He whistles to get someones attention while I just laugh and drive down the road.
